NYU Festivals Delivery Specifications

This document outlines the delivery requirements to have your film screened in an NYU Festival such as First Run.

Export Options

It is essential that you export your film in accordance with the following specifications. If you do not submit an export that meets the following requirements, your film may not be screened in the festival.

Audiovisual File

If you do not have a DCP of your film, you may upload a high-quality audiovisual file that satisfies the following criteria:

File Name

The file name must contain the film title, followed by the director’s first and last name. Separate each with an underscore to create the following structure:

  • Title_FirstName_LastName (e.g. EverythingEverywhereAllAtOnce_The_Daniels.mov)

The file name may only contain letters (English alphabet only), numbers, and underscores.

Resolution

Any of the following resolutions are acceptable:

  • 1920x1080
  • 2048x1080
  • 3840x2160
  • 4096x2160

If your film is not natively in one of these formats, you must export it with the necessary pillarboxing or letterboxing baked-in.

Frame Rate

Either of the following frame rates are acceptable:

  • 23.976
  • 24.00

Codec and Wrapper

Any combination of the following codecs and wrappers are acceptable:

  • Acceptable codecs
    • H.264
    • H.265
    • ProRes (recommended)
    • DNxHR (recommended)
  • Acceptable wrappers
    • .MOV
    • .MXF (Op1A only, no Op-Atom)

Audio

The required audio settings are:

  • Audio Channel Format: Stereo (Left, Right)
  • 48 kHz and 24 bit-depth are recommended, though 44.1 kHz sample rate and 16 bit-depth will be accepted.

Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs)

If you already have a DCP of your film, you may submit that for screening in an NYU Festival. Any correctly authored, DCI-compliant DCP will be accepted.
